A bit of a techie update this week for SQL gurus – it’s all about SQL joins.

As an agileBase user you don’t have to worry about these and even as an administrator you don’t usually since they’re all taken care of behind the scenes. As an administrator, every time you create a view that pulls together data from more than one table, joins are being created for you, automatically or semi-automatically when you specifically choose to include data from a particular table.

The update today doesn’t change any of that, but does add the ability for you to manually change the join type should you want to. If you know the difference between a RIGHT OUTER and an INNER join, you’ll probably appreciate the ability to do this, but if you don’t there’s no need to worry about it!

agileBase creates LEFT OUTER joins by default, because these cover 99% of use cases. In some cases however, an INNER join works out faster, so if you want to squeeze the last ounce of performance out of your database, here’s your chance.

To edit a join, go to a view, select the fields tab then press the ‘joins’ button.
